The key to a smooth sleeve cap is the method used to "work in" the ease. There are few times, if any, in which the fullness should be removed from a sleeve cap because it makes the cap portion of the sleeve smaller and often uncomfortable. The key to a smooth cap (meaning free of puckers) is the initial preparation before it is inserted into the armhole. Cynthia will demonstrate the techniques and participants will practice the construction with samples. Using Cynthia's method you will set the sleeve in twice and sew it once. With pre-cut samples, we will practice the procedure.

Fabric thickness determines the finished interior circumference of a garment. This becomes apparent with thicker fabrics and multiple layers as in waistbands. Cynthia will demonstrate how to determine the amount to allow for great results.
20. Enclosed Seam Control - Saturday 1-2 pm
The basic procedure for constructing any enclosed seam such as collars, cuffs, and facings will be demonstrated. Cynthia will focus on the remaining seam allowances which are the key to controlling the edge once turned: the amount to trim, the order of the grade, and clipping and notching with attention to frequency and amount removed.
21. Back to Basics - Sunday 2:30-3:30 pm
The importance of the initial preparation of pattern pieces (for sewing accuracy) and the fabric will be addressed. Techniques for pinning and cutting will be included.
22. Tweaking the Armhole - Sunday 4-5 pm
Poorly fitting armholes and sleeves are an aggrevation in the wearing of a garment. They can be too big, too small, too high, too low-----and the list continues. So, let's get them "fixed" and then adjust the sleeves accordingly. Cynthia will show you the "how to".
